The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 134(1), 135(1) and 135(4) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980(1).

Having consulted in accordance with sections 134(1A) and 135(1A) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980(2), the Secretary of State is of the opinion that it is expedient in the national interest to designate the area described in article 2 as an urban development corporation.

Citation, commencement and extent

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation (Establishment) Order 2026 and comes into force on 23rd July 2026.

(2) This Order extends to England and Wales.

Urban development area

2.—(1) The urban development area is the area of land in and around Greater Cambridge shown bounded externally by the inside edge of the black line on the map.

(2) In paragraph (1), “ the map ” means the map marked “Map referred to in the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation (Establishment) Order 2026 ” of which prints signed by a Deputy Director in the Minister of Housing, Communities and Local Government have been deposited and are available for inspection at the offices of—

(a)the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government;

(b)Cambridge City Council; and

(c)South Cambridgeshire District Council.

Establishment and naming of the Greater Cambridge Development Corporation

3. There is established a corporation for the urban development area named the “Greater Cambridge Development Corporation”.
