The Football (Disorder) (Duration of Powers) Order 2001

Whereas section 5(2) of the Football (Disorder) Act 2000( 1 ) provides that, subject to section 5(4) of that Act, no application under section 14B of the Football Spectators Act 1989( 2 ) may be made, and no power conferred on a constable by section 21A or 21B of that Act( 3 ) may be exercised, after the end of the initial period( 4 );
And whereas a report about the working of the Football (Disorder) Act 2000 has been laid before each House of Parliament in accordance with section 5(5) of that Act;
And whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 5(4) of the Football (Disorder) Act 2000, hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Football (Disorder) (Duration of Powers) Order 2001 and shall come into force on 28th August 2001.
Continuation of powers beyond initial period
2. Applications under section 14B of the Football Spectators Act 1989 (banning orders made on a complaint) may be made, and the powers conferred on a constable by sections 21A and 21B of that Act (summary measures) may be exercised, during the period of one year from 28th August 2001.

1989 c. 37 ; section 14B was inserted by section 1 of and Schedule 1 to the Football (Disorder) Act 2000.
Sections 21A and 21B were inserted by section 1 of and Schedule 1 to the Football (Disorder) Act 2000.
The effect of sections 5(3) of the Football (Disorder) Act 2000, as read with the Football (Disorder) Act 2000 (Commencement) Order 2000 (S.I. 2000/2125 ), is that the initial period ends on 27th August 2001.
