The Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2015

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 43 of the Firearms Act 1968( 1 ) and sections 11(4) and 17(9) of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988( 2 ), makes the following Order.

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Firearms (Variation of Fees) Order 2015 and comes into force on 6th April 2015.

(2) In this Order “the 1968 Act” means the Firearms Act 1968 .

(3) In this Order “the 1988 Act” means the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988 .

Amendment to fees for firearm and shot gun certificates

2. —(1) Section 32(1) of the 1968 Act( 3 ) (fees for firearm and shot gun certificates) is amended as follows.

(2) In paragraph (a), for “£50” substitute “£88”.

(3) In paragraph (b), for “£40” substitute “£62”.

(4) In paragraph (c), for “£26” substitute “£20”.

(5) In paragraph (cc), for “£9” substitute “£4”.

(6) In paragraph (d), for “£50” substitute “£79.50”.

(7) In paragraph (e), for “£40” substitute “£49”.

(8) In paragraph (f), for “£8” substitute “£4”.

Amendment to fees for registration as a firearms dealer

3. —(1) Section 35 of the 1968 Act( 4 ) (fee for registration and renewal as a firearms dealer) is amended as follows.

(2) In subsection (1), for “£150” substitute “£200”.

(3) In subsection (1A), for “£12” substitute “£13”.

(4) In subsection (3), for “£150” substitute “£200”.

Amendment to fees for co-terminous certificates

4. For section 11(3) of the 1988 Act( 5 ) (fee for the grant or renewal of a shot gun certificate on the same occasion as the grant or renewal of a firearm certificate), substitute—

(3) The following fees shall be payable in the following cases—

(a) where a shot gun certificate is granted to a person and on the same occasion the person is granted a firearm certificate, the fee payable on the grant of the shot gun certificate shall be £2 instead of that specified in section 32 of the principal Act;

(b) where a shot gun certificate is granted to a person and on the same occasion a firearm certificate held by the person is renewed, the fee payable on the grant of the shot gun certificate shall be £28 instead of that specified in section 32 of the principal Act;

(c) where a shot gun certificate held by a person is renewed and on the same occasion the person is granted a firearm certificate, the fee payable on the renewal of the shot gun certificate shall be £2 instead of that specified in section 32 of the principal Act;

(d) where a shot gun certificate held by a person is renewed and on the same occasion a firearm certificate held by the person is renewed, the fee payable on the renewal of the shot gun certificate shall be £3 instead of that specified in section 32 of the principal Act.

Amendment to fees for visitors’ permits

5. —(1) Section 17(8) of the 1988 Act (fee for the grant of visitors’ permits) is amended as follows.

(2) For “£12” substitute “£20”.

(3) For “£60” substitute “£100”.
