The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2021

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 9(4) and 9(4A) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989( 1 ).

Citation, commencement, extent and application

1. —(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2021 and comes into force on 6th December 2021.

(2) This Order extends to England and Wales and applies to relevant authorities in England only( 2 ).

Interpretation

2. In this Order—

the Act” means the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 ;

the National Joint Council” means the National Joint Council for Local Government Services( 3 ); and

the National Joint Council’s Scheme” means the National Joint Council’s National Agreement on Pay and Conditions of Service( 4 ).

Specified maximum amount

3. —(1) The point specified for the purposes of section 9(4)(a) of the Act is spinal column point 38 of the salary scales for local government officers incorporated in the National Joint Council’s Scheme.

(2) The amount which corresponds to the point specified in paragraph (1) is such amount as is published by the National Joint Council from time to time with respect to full-time posts under a local authority in England and Wales.

Revocation

4. The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) (England) Order 2006( 5 ) is revoked.
