The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Coroners and Justice Act 2009( 1 ), and after consulting in accordance with that paragraph, makes the following Order.

Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (Alteration of Coroner Areas) Order 2023 and comes into force on 1st April 2023.

Interpretation

2. In this Order—

coroner area ” means a coroner area specified in the Coroners and Justice Act 2009 (Coroner Areas and Assistant Coroners) Transitional Order 2013( 2 );

new coroner area ” means the new coroner area resulting from the combining of the coroner areas set out in Articles 3 and 4.

New coroner areas

3. The following coroner areas are combined to create the new coroner area of Newcastle and North Tyneside—

(a) Newcastle-upon-Tyne; and

(b) North Tyneside.

4. The following coroner areas are combined to create the new coroner area of West Sussex, Brighton and Hove—

(a) West Sussex; and

(b) Brighton and Hove.
