About

What zoomLaw is, and who is behind it.

zoomLaw is an independent UK legal research tool. It publishes the official text of Acts and statutory instruments with the working shown: defined terms marked where they are used, the cases and instruments that turn on each section pinned beside it, and judgments analysed down to the propositions they decide.

Who runs it

zoomLaw is built and run in the United Kingdom by a small independent team. It is not affiliated with the National Archives, the Ministry of Justice, or any legal publisher. Questions, corrections and feedback go to alex@zoomlaw.co.uk.

Where the content comes from

  • Legislation is taken from legislation.gov.uk and reproduced under the Open Government Licence v3.0, with amendments applied as published.
  • Judgments are drawn from the public record.
  • The annotations, summaries, defined-term marking and the citator are zoomLaw’s own work, and are checked continuously against the source.

What it is not

zoomLaw is a research tool. It is not legal advice, and nothing here replaces reading the judgment or the enacted text. If something looks wrong, please tell us.

Access

The legislation and case summaries are free to read. A free account, by email or Google, unlocks the citator: cases pinned to each section, judicial consideration per proposition, and full judgment text. See the overview for what each level includes, and the for how we handle data.
