The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 66 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017( 1 ):
Citation and commencement
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Children and Social Work Act 2017 (Consequential Amendments) (Social Workers) Regulations 2019 and come into force on the date on which section 39(1) of the Children and Social Work Act 2017 comes into force( 2 ).
Consequential amendments
2. The following have effect—
(a) Schedule 1, which makes consequential amendments to Orders of Council made under the Health Professions Order 2001( 3 ),
(b) Schedule 2, which makes amendments consequential on the renaming of the Health Professions Order 2001,
(c) Schedule 3, which makes amendments consequential on the transfer of functions in relation to social workers( 4 ).

Section 36 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017 (“the Act”) established a body corporate, Social Work England, as the regulator of social workers in England, in place of the Health and Care Professions Council. The Social Workers Regulations 2018 ( S.I. 2018/893 ), made under Part 2 of the Act, make further provision about the functions of Social Work England, and also come into force on the date when section 39(1) of the Act (which requires the regulator to maintain the register of social workers in England) comes into force.
S.I. 2002/254 ; the Order was re-named by section 213(4) and (6) of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (c. 7) , and by paragraphs 45 and 46 of Schedule 5 to the Act. The Orders of Council make provision about the functioning of the Health and Care Professions Council.
